Claire Denis and David Cronenberg headline the 2022 Cannes Film Festival

It’s that time of year again folks, Oscar season is just a faint twinkle in the rearview mirror (thank God!) and world cinema gets its time to shine. With TikTok as a major festival partner, and Netflix still on the naughty step when it comes to the competition, Cannes head honcho Thierry Frémaux has announced another spicy line-up which combines a number of old guard reliables, new talent and the odd have-a-go hero looking to capitalise on past successes.

We already knew of some of the mega titles that will premiere on the Croisette: Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis, starring Austin Butler in the lead and a prosthetic-clad Tom Hanks as Col Tom Parker, will likely be the glitziest offering this year; while Tom Cruise himself will be doing a red carpet flyby to present his long delayed sequel, Top Gun: Maverick by his old collaborator, Joseph Kosinski. Without further ado, here is the full line-up of the main festival, with the Director’s Fortnight and Critics’ Week to come later.
